GRIFFITH PARK. Located in Griffith Park at the junction of the Ventura and Golden State Freeways, the zoo is a break from the urban jungle, featuring 113 lively acres and more than 1100 animals that represent some distinct 350 species. One of the most popular exhibits, Red Ape Rain Forest, is a state-of-the-art facility that is home to zoo’s unique orangutan population. In addition, kids can interact with the friendlier furry residents ­ including a Vietnamese pot-bellied pig ­ at the Winnick Family Children’s Zoo. Well worth an afternoon of exploration.
