WEST HOLLYWOOD. Fame and notoriety color this nightspot. Once owned by actor Johnny Depp, it has a reputation for attracting a glitzy clientele and for being the site of actor River Phoenix’s death in 1993. Johnny Cash, Lenny Kravitz, and Sheryl Crow have all played here, and unexpected big-name guests take to the stage regularly. The intimate space means you can get up close and actually see performers (unlike larger venues, where you’re lucky if you can even see the stage!). Unless you arrive early, expect to wait a while outside the velvet ropes.
